The Soft Moon [Total Decay, Captured Tracks]

I was told about a week ago that The Soft Moon played some new songs at a show here in San Francisco. Usually when that happens a lot of speculation soon follows about where these songs will be found. This morning Pitchfork reported that Luis will be releasing a new EP titled Total Decay which has a Halloween release date. One of the tracks can be heard below. If one is looking for something to do that night or an excuse to make into SF, the record release show will be held at The Independent; definitely a show not to miss. RSVP here

Widowspeak [Nightcrawlers, Captured Tracks]

Angelic voice, recorded at Rear House; somehow this record went under my radar. But even though I'm late to the Widowspeak party I was able to find some interesting around the net about the artist (like this interview on our good friends' blog Turntable Kitchen). Below is one of the singles released on their first self-titled LP as well as a Chris Isaac cover for a B-side on an earlier 7'' single. The singles and LP can be found here

Hoop Dreams [XCPR, Captured Tracks]

Listen to the A side of Hoop Dreams' 7" out on Captured Tracks. This group of six from Blacksburg, Virginia fit right into the labels catalog; sounding more like Belfast natives Girls Names than anything in the states, Hoop Dreams comfortably carve their own niche within the Captured Tracks family. Grab their 7" here.

Craft Spells [From The Morning Heat, Captured Tracks]

Craft Spells' debut album, Idle Labor, drops today on Captured Tracks and below is the latest single to be released from the album. Justin and his new band will be in San Francisco May 5th in support of Beach Fossils at Slims with Melted Toys just added to the bill.

Tim Cohen [Don't Give Up, Captured Tracks]

Magic Trick will be the third album to be released by Fresh & Onlys frontman Tim Cohen in as many years.  The prolific singer/songwriter had a new track debuted the other day via Pitchfork. The new album will once again be released by Captured Tracks on February 22nd along with a double 7'' EP.

The Soft Moon [Circles Music Video, Captured Tracks]

The hypnotic video seen above is from Luis Vasquez's side project, The Soft Moon. His impressive s/t debut album came out a few months ago on Captured Tracks and is by far a departure from his work with psych outfit Lumerians. Listen to a couple more tracks below.

The Beets [Time Brought Age, Captured Tracks]

"Time Brought Age" is the new track from The Beets to be released on Captured Tracks as a 7'' single on January 11th (digitally on December 22nd).  The songs will be found only on this single and will accompany the second full length album, Stay Home released on the same day.  The Beets have quickly become a favorite of mine this year, so naturally looking forward to these releases and the killer artwork from Matt Volz.

Minks [Cemetary Rain, Captured Tracks]

After a couple 7'' singles released on Captured Tracks over the last year, goth favorites of this blog Minks made the exciting announcement a couple days ago of a debut album to come out soon on January 12th on the same label. The record is titled By The Hedge and a few tracks from this hugely anticipated album can be found below.  Also announced yesterday was the tour teaser between Dum Dum Girls and Minks which will span both West and East Coasts and Canada.

Beach Fossils [Face It / Distance 7'', Captured Tracks]

Beach Fossils is a band I have come to love more and more after each play of their debut self-titled album; from the first listen to "Daydream" I was an instant of the Brooklyn band. And they have been quick off the mark with a new 7'' with an October 12th release date. The record will feature two brand new songs and can be heard below.

Craft Spells [Party Talk 7'', Captured Tracks]

Its been a long long time coming and I can't believe I was able to keep this a secret but two days ago was the official announcement that Craft Spells had signed to Captured Tracks and will have a 7'' released on the Brooklyn label. July 31st marked my last night in my home town of Stockton and it was spent listening to the sounds of Justin and Frankie at a house show. Even as the adrenaline was at a high, they took time out to make the special announcement of a Captured Tracks deal, which is huge for Stockton (seriously, there was Pavement and then....) but what is more important is that the town with a ugly reputation has produced something beautiful and like I have said so many times, something to be proud of.

Wild Nothing [Golden Haze EP, Captured Tracks]

A new track was released on Pitchfork's Forkcast yesterday from an artist I've been listening to a lot from lately. "Golden Haze" is the latest from Wild Nothing which will be off of his new EP titled Golden Haze off of Captured Tracks. The track picks up right where Gemini left off with Jack Tatum's soft vocals and the bands mellow sounding music. The release date has been made for September 13th (via) but the EP will be available as a 12'', CD, and as a digital download with the vinyl having 4 tracks and the CD with 6 (vinyl's 4 + 2, again via).

Hanoi Janes [I Dig You, Captured Tracks]

"I Dig You" can be found off of the brand new Specks Ho! 7'' EP on Captured Tracks. The track is fairly short, a little under the 2 minute mark but that does not take away from how good the song is. Its a bright pop song with excellent vocals and guitar lines, both electric and acoustic. This EP is a perfect follow up to his excellent full length Year Of Panic, which came out earlier in the year.

Minks [Ophelia 7'', Captured Tracks]

Ophelia is the new 7'' single to be released Minks over on Captured Tracks. I was really into their first single "Funeral Song" and was very stoked to hear how different this new track sounded. "Ophelia" is a bit softer than "Funeral Song" but Mink's ability to lock in on melody remains apparent.

Tim Cohen [Laugh Tracks, Captured Tracks]

Tim Cohen will have a new solo album released on Captured Tracks and should be available now. This new record is an improvement on his magnificent debut Two Sides of Time Cohen in which he incorporates more instruments, such as horn sections, into his songs. The songwriting from the Fresh & Only frontman is phenomenal and having to pick a couple tracks to post was a very daunting task. Tim was telling me the main difference between this record and his previous release was a more improved recording process and technique and from the sound of this record it is a welcomed improvement as the songs are more vibrant and sharper. Tim also has a third album completed but no word yet as to the title or release date.

Beach Fossils [Daydream, Captured Tracks]

Beach Fossils will be having their debit album dropping May 25th on Captured Tracks. The Brooklyn based band in the meantime have a 7'' on the same New York label which includes the tracks "Daydream" (which will be on the new LP) and "Desert Sand" (check the music video section for the video). Four tracks off the new album can be found on the bands myspace page.
