"I Wanna Do It" is the new single to be released from San Francisco's Sonny and the Sunsets. The track is part of the band's sophomore album titled Hit After Hit which will be released April 12th on Fat Possum Records.

Not long ago, Sonny Smith (Sonny & The Sunsets) survived a near-drowning off the coast of northern california. The experience affected him profoundly and led to a wealth of output including a play, a novel, and a stack of songs. Sonny's critically acclaimed "100 Records" project is itself a direct product of Sonny's fight with the sea. A novel he began, "Adelard the Drowned", broke into 100 pieces. Four of those pieces come as songs on this 7" e.p., each bound to the next by a twisted braid of water and death. Through the fog and the haze, however, there lies in these songs a shared sense of redemption, transformation, or reawakening. Featuring appearances by Heidi and Grace of the The Sandwitches and a long-lost band called The Transients, this record features Sonny's songwriting at its strongest, staring death in the face. It's an exciting time for Sonny and the Sunsets. The San Francisco band have recently signed for Fat Possum Records as well as had a slot on this year's Pitchfork Music Festival. I have been a huge fan of their debut record Tomorrow Is Alright and was kind of surprised not much was really said about it or the band (outside of San Francisco). But signing to Fat Possum has surely put this band in the forefront now; the label will be re-releasing the album digitally and by CD August 31st and they have a couple live dates coming in the next few weeks. Yesterday marked their Daytrotter debut with this set of 6 wonderfully recorded songs; some off of Tomorrow Is Alright and a couple new ones.

San Francisco's Sonny and the Sunsets just keep on going with the new releases. Their sold out debut album came out last year and was fantastic! Their song on the "In A Cloud" compilation from Secret Seven Records (which can be purchased here, and limited to 1,000 copies)was phenonimal. So when I found this sweet 4 track 7'' on Future Stress Recordings, I had to pick it up. The song "Stranded" from their earlier LP release is included here but there are three new tracks to get excited about.
