"Basements" & "Past Lives" are the newest tracks from my favorite San Francisco indie band Sunbeam Rd. The new songs will be made available for download on the band's bandcamp page February 8th and are not to go ignored. The band were also featured in a San Diego / San Francisco compilation put out by Hop Skip Jump Records and can be found here. Sunbeam Rd will be headlining at Hemlock Tavern February 16th with fellow local acts Spiro Agnew and Red Blue Yellow.

Sunbeam Rd [Circular Breathing]

January 4th, San Francisco's Sunbeam Rd are set to release a new single on their bandcamp page.  Last year, the quartet released an incredible OOP cassette EP Turtles, Magnets, Animals which for me was an EP of the year. Trevor from the band has been keeping me posted on the progress of these new tracks, which are some of the best songs they have written as a band. I've seen the band perform live several times through out the last half of 2010 and have been very impressed by the energy and quality they bring to their set. A very promising young indie band that I can't praise enough and one to keep an eye out for sure. Listen to the two tracks below and watch a video I captured during a set back in August.

Sunbeam Rd [Circular Breathing Live Clip]

A couple weeks ago at the Hemlock Tavern I finally got the chance to see Sunbeam Rd perform a live set. A band I have had huge amounts of praise and respect for did not disappoint as their set was filled with everything I imagined it would be. The band were sharp and on point, the set was full of energy and they performed most of the songs from their EP perfectly. They debuted several new songs that I feel show the band harnessing and perfecting their awesome sound. When Trevor asked if I would like to film their set, I was more than happy to agree. Even though there were a few camera issues, I was able to capture "Daze Of Happiness" in its entirety and was pleased with how it came out.

Equators / Magic Triangle [Covers CD-R split]

A couple days ago, Trevor from Sunbeam Rd sent me over a couple tracks from a side project he and his brother Clive have been working on. The two plan on releasing a split CD-R with each person contributing 2-3 songs under their respective solo names. The CD-R will be all covers and must be recorded individually within a 24 hour timeframe; one song however will be a collaboration between the two. Trevor's contribution under the name Equators is a cover of the Beach Boys while Clive, who goes by Magic Triangle, covered The Turtles. They expect a release sometime in late August.

Sunbeam Rd [Turtles, Magnets, Animals EP]

Sunbeam Rd is a new band out of San Francisco that I recently found and was into the two songs they had posted on their myspace page. Little did I know that trying to pick a song to post from their cassette EP would be such a difficult task. The five tracks are all pretty solid with four out of the five breaking the five minute mark. The track "Grue" starts off very feint, slowly picking up volume as well as pace. Drums soon thunder in followed by the baseline and the song takes begins to take shape. The track "Waves" is another highlight from the EP. The band will be playing at the Hemlock Tavern this Tuesday for their record release. The way their songs are structured there is a lot of potential for them to improvise and make the live set shine.
