Woodsman [Inside / Outside]

Friend Trevor of Woodsman shot me over an email yesterday containing some pretty sweet news. The band have a new song out titled "Inside / Outside"; unsure what its release will be but it may be related to the following. Woodsman will be going on a Spring tour with fellow Fire Talk Records bandmates Tjutjuna and are looking to raise some funds for transportation costs. They started a kickstarter campaign to help ease the burden of touring DIY. However, when reading the pledge levels there is mention of a split 7'' and cassette between Woodsman and Tjutjuna. The song may feature on either one of those releases or both but regardless, the song is another instrumental psych jammer from Woodsman. Keep an eye out for this tour; definitely one not to be missed.

Woodsman [Smells Like Purple, Live Clip]

This clip on The Fader features everything that makes Woodsman one of my favorite new bands. By far, they are one of the most truly artistic bands around (buying a cassette tape from them you'd know what I mean, not to mention their Polaroids) in both media of audio and visual. And like a piece of art, one can't make a quick glance to fully appreciate the beauty behind it. Listening to the first couple notes of a Woodsman track will not guarantee the true meaning or feeling behind it; they are carefully crafted and layered that one has to take the journey through their songs that seem to never end but yet give such a mind altering experience when finished.

This clip shows the band performing live which have images fading in and out throughout the shot. Being a fan of 60's psychedelica, seeing images projected over the band as they performed their song, "Smells Like Purple" gave this clip a vintage feel of an era long gone but not forgotten. The new EP comes out June 1st with a west coast tour in Autumn.

Woodsman [Mystery Tape EP, Lefse Records]

Denver's Woodsman will be having a new EP released on June 1st on Sacramento based label Lefse records. Their album on Mexican Summer, Collages, has been playing on my turntable non-stop and am really looking forward to this album. If you haven't yet heard of the band, they specialize in psyched out jams that make you lose track of time and they have already released two cassettes (Fire Talk), the above mentioned album on Mexican Summer and a free download single on Beko DSL.

Woodsman [Beko Digital Single Label]

Every Monday Beko DSL (http://beko-dsl.com/) release a new single on their website for free. And last week's edition was one of my favorite new bands this year, Woodsman. I loved their two cassettes and Mexican Summer release and theses two songs keep the momentum going. The A side is an ambient instrumental song with low vocals in the background, while the B side is a 9 minute pysched-out jam which is reminiscent of their live shows. Check out the songs but also check out the other great music Beko DSL has to already released.
