Akron/Family [So It Goes, Dead Oceans]

Very happy to see the new single from Akron/Family in the inbox today.  I've been waiting ever so long for some new music from these guys and the track doesn't disappoint.  "So It Goes" is truly distinct from some of the songs the band have put out recently. With the guitars in similar fashion to The Black Keys of old, "So It Goes" is a great track that changes up their sound a bit but still maintains that Akron/Family familiarity. The album S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT will be out February 8th from Dead Oceans (March 14th in the UK).

This weekend will feature several listening parties for the new album between the US, Canada and UK. The Media Arts Center in San Diego will host the album via video cast here at 10pm (PST). Also label Joyful Noise will be releasing the cassette version of the album. The purple tapes will come hand numbered in a set of 500 and go on pre-sale January 17th. They officially get released on February 8th.

Akron/Family [Meek Warrior, Live Clip]

This new film for Akron/Family was shot by Ian Perlman and Ray Concepcion. The intro sequence to the live performance is absolutely brilliant; even though the sun can seem like an annoying essential element to our lives with its blinding light and heat, Ian and Ray use it to their advantage. The sun helps illuminate their subject while in the meantime creating nice effects as the rays enter through the lens. The performance for "Meek Warrior" was phenomenal and judging by the bro in the white V-neck in the opening bits, incredibly psychedelic. Akron/Family will Oakland at The New Parish on the 13th of August with White Hills and Bad Weather California in support.
