Wake Up! is a collaboration of epic proportions and couldn't come out at a better time considering the modern political climate. The project was started as a single between soul singer John Legend and Hip Hop crew The Roots but soon turned into this masterful project. The concept of the album is simple but yet effective as most of the songs are covers from 60's and 70's soul and R&B singers of songs that dive deep into social consciousness and self awareness. The album features covers for "Little Ghetto Boy", "Hard Times", "Wake Up Everybody" and from artists like Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers and the lovely Nina Simone. There is one original feature on the album written by Legend and can be seen below. The album drops on September 21st and is a definite project to check out.
