Holy Spirits [To The Shore, Live Clip]

This live clip of Holy Spirits was shot by the Portland film crew Into The Woods in a special series they called Homesick (essentially them filming while on the road). Their New York stop couldn't have come at a better time. Occupy Wall Street was in its second month of protest against corporate greed and corruption and in full force while this clip was taken. For those not in the Manhattan area the video gives a first person view of this epic campaign to push reform and change (with Holy Spirits trying to perform over the ruckus). This is OUR generation's time to leave a mark on history and help change and make right a disgustingly corrupt system.

Holy Spirits [Tongues, Live Clip]

A few month ago I had the pleasure of putting on a show for some amazing bands. January 20th saw debut performances by Mutual Benefit and Holy Spirits here in San Francisco. The above clip was filmed during a set by Holy Spirits; with the use of Nathaniel Whitcomb's collage projections they performed their entire EP with a few new songs scattered throughout. Holy Spirits are busy working on another project for San Francisco label Father/Daughter records. The EP can now be purchased on cassette here along with Mutual Benefit's entire catalog. Check out a live clip of Mutual Benefit during SXSW here

Event: Holy Spirits / Phantom Kicks / Mutual Benefit / Steffaloo [Milk Bar, San Francisco 01.20.2011]

Today marks my 500th post and I couldn't be more excited than to have Holy Spirits and Think or Smile as the subject. Several months back I first debuted the band's EP, The Afternoon's Blood, on this site and since then the band has formed a collaborative relationship with visual artist Nathaniel Whitcomb. Nathaniel runs Think or Smile and has made a series of motion collages for each song on the EP. Below is the brand new collage for "Contain"; all his other work can be found here. The collage was made from 40 year old National Geographic magazines that were hand cut and digitally assembled. All of these videos will be projected over Holy Spirits as they perform for the first time on the West Coast (dates below).

See The Leaves and Father / Daughter Records are proud to present the SF leg of the tour. The show will be held at Milk Bar on January 20th along with Phantom Kicks, Mutual Benefit and Steffaloo

Holy Spirits & Nathaniel Whitcomb [West Coast Tour Kickstarter]

Holy Spirits will provide the music, Nathaniel Whitcomb will provide the visuals

Several month ago I had the pleasure of posting an EP from Brooklyn based band Holy Spirits. Since that time a couple things have happened: they’ve hooked up with insanely talented visual artist Nathaniel Whitcomb who has produced two incredible videos for the band, SmokeDon’tSmoke conducted an interview as well as produced a music video for the band, and lastly the band have gotten a couple CMJ spots this year. All this is building up to their ambition as artists by wanting to spread their music as far as possible. The band is currently raising funds on their recent kickstarter project in order to generate some money to cover all the expenses that occur due to touring in order to come out to the West Coast for a couple intimate shows. For them, this is the biggest and most enthralling step they have taken and I can guarantee that what they have in store will not disappoint. See The Leaves will be hosting the San Francisco show while SmokeDon’tSmoke will handle the LA gig.

If you have yet to hear their amazing EP, go here for a free download and then go here to help out our fellow musicians embark on a journey of a lifetime. Number wise the band is halfway there and any contribution would help out tremendously.

Holy Spirits [The Afternoon's Blood]

The Afternoon's Blood is the self-released EP from Brooklyn band, Holy Spirits. The music is absolutely beautiful; in a similar fashion to Fleet Foxes the vocal harmonies and layering are splendid, the lyrics are poetry, and their sound is some of the most delightful folk music around. They were also recently featured on a mixtape put together by Matthew Wipple of Cymbals Eat Guitars over on International Tapes' mixtape series.
