With the dawn of Spring around the corner it can only mean that festival season is not too far away. Starting with Noisepop in San Francisco CA (February 23rd - March 1st, see below post), SXSW in Austin TX March 12th - 21st (http://sxsw.com/) and then to Coachella in Indio CA (coachella.com/, see previous post) in a few weeks time on April 16th - 18th. All three festivals are loaded with incredible music acts that the excitement for the summer spectacles are at an all time high.
The lineup for Bonnaroo in Manchester TN (http://www.bonnaroo.com/) was released on February 9th and not by orthodox methods. If you were bored yesterday and had access to a computer then you probably watched the longest and most drawn out (literally) festival unveiling in history. Heading over to their myspace page you would see a giant coo coo clock floating in the clouds accompanied by a floating lightbulb with arms following your mouse pointers every movement. Every six minutes the clock would come to life as animations (see above) danced onto the front screen to present one act at a time. Needless to say, an amusing and novel concept for the first 20 minuets but soon got very annoying after that.
With high anticipation as to who would be performing at this years festival eating away at us all the coo coo clock ticked on until 9 PM eastern time to give the following initial lineup.
Internet music site pitchfork.com released and initial lineup for their three day event on July 16th-18th (http://www.pitchforkmusicfestival.com/) in Chicago IL event last week which already boasts an impressive schedule:
Friday
Modest MouseSaturday
LCD Soundsystem
Raekwon
Sunday
Pavement
St. Vincent
Lightning Bolt
Cass McCombs
Here We Go Magic
Sleigh Bells
Lollapalooza (http://www.lollapalooza.com/), the other and more famous festival in Chicago, has yet to release who they will be inviting for this years showcase but by looking at the headliners for the other festivals thus far, it is pretty interesting to see who they have or will book. Outsidelands Festival in San Francisco CA (http://www.sfoutsidelands.com/) has yet to release a schedule yet but we are all awaiting the tweets from Ranger Dave to figure out who will be performing this year at the end of August.
